How to Become a DJ

If you are interested in DJ'ing for Youth Nation, please follow the steps below:

  1. Read and understand this entire document. If you have questions, please feel free to ask.
  2. You must already be a member of Youth Nation, and have been properly vouched for, etc.
  3. You must have a website account and subsequent in-world account that you will use to login to the Youth Nation Grid and DJ your events.
  4. Create a "Request to DJ" ticket in the Discord server. Be sure to include:
    1. (required) The day and the block of time you want to claim (see more about slots below)
    2. (required) The grid location where you would like to hold your sets.
    3. (optional) The name of your host who will handle announcements, notices, and other advertisements regarding your event.

  5. Please allow up to 48 hours for our team to process your request. Once your request is processed, we will respond to your ticket with additional information.

Rules and Expectations

Standards

  1. All event management and DJ recruitment is handled by the Event Coordinator. DJ’s must coordinate all events with the Event Coordinator prior to conducting them. This allows for proper organization and conflict avoidance.
  2. We understand that you have a real life, and real life needs to come first. However, regarding professional conduct, it is expected that you provide as much notice to the Event Coordinator as possible if you need to cancel or change the details of your event. This allows our team to effectively handle your absence/changes in a timely manner that best benefits the community.
  3. Failure to follow these rules and especially Youth Nation’s Terms of Service and Code of Conduct may result in your immediate dismissal as a DJ. We reserve the revoke your DJ’ing privileges for any reason.
  4. These rules are subject to change, and changes will be communicated as best as possible. However, it is your responsibility to regularly review them.
  5. DJ’s and their hosts will handle their own notices. The Event Coordinator is not responsible for advertising for your event beyond adding the event to the official calendar of scheduled events.

Streaming

  1. Youth Nation assumes that DJ’s have the right to broadcast any and all content streamed over our Grid. As it is very difficult to regulate and monitor material streamed over our grid, Youth Nation will not be held responsible for a DJ’s unauthorized broadcast of material they do not have the right to broadcast. Complaints of copyright infringement will be handled according to our DMCA Policy.
  2. DJ’s will not stream material over the Youth Nation Grid that violates our Terms of Service and Code of Conduct.
  3. DJ’s may use their own streaming service to host audio streams, however Youth Nation will also provide a stream if desired. Using the Youth Nation stream requires advanced notice, do not wait until the last minute to request steaming credentials.
  4. DJ’s should arrive at their venue at least 10-15 minutes early to test the stream and troubleshoot any issues. Youth Nation is not responsible for setting up your stream for you, however you are welcome to ask for support if you need help. Support requests should be made via a ticket in the Discord server.
  5. Once granted DJ’ing privileges, the DJ will be given a new DJ role in the Youth Nation-managed in-world groups to allow for configuration of parcel streams at sims such as Youth City, Sota Beach, and Ferret Harbor. If you decide to DJ at a venue that is not managed by Youth Nation, you are responsible for coordinating with the parcel owner to get access to their parcel’s stream settings.

Time Slots

  1. There are 3 slots max per day. Too many events in a single day is overwhelming typically and reduces the audience that will come to your show. The Youth Nation Event Coordinator may choose to override this rule on special occasions, such as holidays.
  2. DJ’s can reserve only one recurring time slot per week. This helps accommodate new DJ’s that might want to start performing on our grid.
  3. DJ’s can schedule as many impromptu shows as desired, so long as they don’t conflict with existing scheduled events. Please communicate your impromptu event to the Event Coordinator as early as possible if you’d like it to appear on the official schedule of events. It’s a good idea to check with the Event Coordinator first in case your impromptu event conflicts with something not known to the public, like schedule maintenance or unexpected grid issues.
  4. While you are allowed to skip a week occasionally, if you end up not DJ’ing for more than two weeks without good cause, your time slot might be forfeited and/or your DJ privileges may be revoked.
  5. Time slots may not overlap, meaning the block of time you request cannot conflict with any previously set events.
  6. A single time slot is a 2-hour block of time, however you can start a little early or finish a little late (within reason), so long as it doesn't conflict with another scheduled event.
  7. When reserving time slots, consider a gap between sets for people to move from one venue to another. This is not required, but recommended.

Event Details

In order to provide the best user experience to our community members as possible, please provide the following information for your events to the Event Coordinator, at least 24 hours in advance:

  1. The name of your event. If none is specified, your username/DJ name will be used.
  2. The location of your event. This is required so people know where to go. Please provide at least the name of the Sim where your event will be located, however, also providing a “hop” link is preferred.
  3. Optionally, you can provide some additional details like what type of music you’ll be playing, contests you’ll be running, dress code themes, etc.

Failing to provide adequate event details may negatively impact the outcome of your show!

Additional Considerations

  1. By requesting to become a DJ, and if you are accepted, you agree to allow us to use your username/DJ name for communication purposes in the community, including but not limited to:
    1. Assigning you a special Discord role, which will display your name more prominently in the member list.
    2. Using your name on the public calendar which displays scheduled events.
    3. Using your name in announcements, alerts, and notices to the community.
  2. A DJ is not an employee of Youth Nation. DJ’s should not expect any benefits or compensation for DJ’ing.
  3. While signing up to be a DJ does not mean you are being employed by Youth Nation, we do ask you to conduct yourself at a slightly higher standard than the average user needs to.
